Las Vegas Legends Knock Out Defending Champion Sockers

In a match between budding rivals, the Las Vegas Legends defeated the 4-time PASL Champion San Diego Sockers by the score of 11-7. The victory sends the Legends into the Ron Newman Cup semifinals against Hidalgo La Fiera FC in Chicago on March 15.

The game was a defensive struggle all night long as both keepers came up big. It was not until Luis Piffer of the Legends broke a 4-4 tie with three seconds left in the third quarter which seemed to turn the tide towards Las Vegas.

Less than a minute into the last period, Enrique Tovar scored a miraculous goal from the Legends half of the field which was misplayed by Sockers keeper Chris Toth. That goal was the spark that Las Vegas needed in order to slowly pull away from San Diego and cement their place in the PASL semifinals.

The two Central Division teams had split their regular season series with Las Vegas winning in San Diego and San Diego returning the favor in Las Vegas. Saturday night the Legends team and fans proved to be an obstacle that the Sockers were unable to avoid.
